Edukasyon is an edtech platform that is based in the Philippines

Context / Challenge

As a product manager consultant at Edukasyon, I was responsible for handling both the mature product (scholarship) and new product initiatives.

As the goal is to increase MAU and user acquisition on the platform, we need to figure out a way that would increase both with the least amount of effort possible.

My Proposed Solution

One of the ideas that we were thinking of was a gamification of our platform (note: later on, we decided to call this product initiative Quests). To ensure that we can quickly validate this idea, I had to figure out the MVP scope that could be deployed in a month or less time.

The crucial part of the MVP included at the very least these two components:

So we do not have to spend time in looking for potential partners who would be interested, I used an e-voucher gifting platform that has more than a hundred partners already available in the platform saving the company 1 - 2 months of scouring and establishing relationship with at least one (1) potential partner.

On the virtual coins component, it would have to be basic, but still very functional. I needed to come up with both the Virtual coins = Fiat conversion, and at least 2 starter Quests.

As one of the company goals is to increase user acquisition, I designed the Quests to be related to acquisition by giving virtual coins for every sign-ups and referrals per user.

Since I was also handling scholarship at that time, I also designed a Quest that would reward the user if he/she completed the scholarship assessment quiz to understand what would be the best type of scholarship that is most applicable for him/her.

In addition to designing the product flow, I was also doing the copy for the product and collaborating with our digital team in order to track the analytics.

Results

After deploying Quests, we saw an increase of active users to 20% and new users signing up to the platform by 15% within 1.5 months of releasing the feature. Up until now, Edukasyon is still utilizing the feature contributing to both increase in MAU and getting partnership deals.
